Learn to Fly!

Put a smile on someone's face and teach them to fly!

Learn About Us

You already found us on the internet, but you can learn a bunch about RC flying at Fair Haven by viewing/downloading a free copy of our Pilot Handbook. It's a good introduction to the Rutland County RC Flyers as a club, and RC flying at our airfield in Fair Haven.

Join the Fun!

Have you always wanted to learn how to fly a radio control aircraft? You've come to the right place!

The Rutland County RC Flyers is a chartered club with the Academy of Model Aeronautics. That means we follow the safety guidelines of that Community Based Organization, just to help ensure that we fly our aircraft safely, and under our control at all times.

As a member of the public, you are cordially invited to visit with us during the warmer months on pretty much any day that features good weather. If it's sunny, and not too windy, chances are a few of us will be at the field, and we'd be happy to show you the ropes and, if you like, give you an introductory flight, too! For directions to our field, go to our About page.

RC Flying is a very enjoyable, social activity. Hangar talk is non-stop!

We have a great time and have an awesome flying field!

Learn About Recreational RC Flying

You can learn a lot about the hobby just by giving us a visit or two, meeting with the pilots, and observing what we do. As mentioned earlier, it won't cost you a thing to visit us and mingle with the group.

As you may imagine, our club doesn't 'own' the airspace that we fly in. All airspace in the United States is under the direction of the Federal Aviation Administration, and there are certain rules all of us need to adhere to, even in the hobby world.

We highly recommend a FREE course (Recreational Flying Made Easy) offered by Pilot Institute, which will give you an excellent introduction to the ins and outs of flying RC models, officially called Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) by the FAA. The course will take you just under a couple of hours to complete, and afterwards you'll have an opportunity to take the required FAA TRUST exam. TRUST is an acronym for The Recreational UAS Safety Test. It's not really a 'test' of sorts, but more like a guided quiz, and you are guaranteed to pass it. Like the course, the exam will cost you absolutely nothing. Once you complete the exam, be sure to download your TRUST certificate, so you'll have it should it be requested from the authorities.

Someday you might even build a large-scale model, like this Cessna 'Bird Dog,' powered by a 100cc gasoline engine!

We can't wait to welcome you to our airfield...hope to see you soon!
